Character Name: Shuten-Douji
Canon: Fate/Grand Order
Canon Point: Post-Lostbelt No.5 Ancient Ocean of the Dreadnought Gods, Atlantis
Background: Story Premise | Character Wiki Link and Fate/Materials IV Profile (Note: Fan translated.)

NOTE: In-game, Shuten will refer to the main character, Ritsuka Fujimaru as 'she.'

Suitability:

Shuten-Douji is one of the many Heroic Spirits summoned by Chaldea's remaining Master to preserve the Human Order. Despite her Chaotic Evil alignment, Shuten has proven that she is more than willing to roll with the punches to save history and the whole world several times over along with fellow Servants. Whether she's on the side of 'good' or 'evil' doesn't particularly matter to her; she's an oni who's just there to have a good time, and drink (a LOT) no matter when or where she is. Shuten-Douji has faced her fair share of heroes, villains, kings, gods, and weird events (one or two which she's had a hand in) so throw anything her way and the oni will take it in stride. She may even decide to be the problem if she becomes bored, worryingly enough.

Shuten would find entertainment in discovering the world of Abraxas and the people who have been summoned like herself. If left to her own devices, she'll follow the lead of whatever faction is most interesting or offers her the best deal rather than what may be the greater good.

Powers:

POWERS HERE and VIDEO DEMONSTRATION HERE. I will explain her nature as a Servant and then give a brief narrative explanation of what each of her skills can do below.

✸ Servant β€” Shuten-Douji is a Servant which to give the bare basics, means she is a being made of magical energy, summoned by magi as a powerful and high-grade familiar. Her physical manifestation functions normally as one would expect, but she does not need to eat or sleep and can transition into a spirit form to conserve energy. Though most Servants are already above humans in terms of power, Shuten's personal stats boast high strength, decent endurance, agility, and mana quality.

❧ Intoxicating Aroma of Fruits β€” This ability allows Shuten to intoxicate her targets with her mannerisms and physicality; it's essentially a charming skill. Utilizing her voice and her appearance, the aroma of alcoholic fruit emerges and induces a drunken stupor that temporarily incapacitates them.
❧ Demonic Nature of an Oni β€” In addition to her strength derived from her status as a Servant, Shuten can draw upon her brutal strength as an oni to enhance her attacks, causing her to hit even harder.
❧ Oni's Head (Battle Continuation) β€” Even when dealt a fatal physical blow, Shuten can get up and continue fighting. This is based on her legend where her head continued to attack even after being decapitated. She's weaker when invoking this skill and can be easily taken out afterward.

✸ Noble Phantasm: Senshibankou - Shinpen Ki Doku β€” In life, Shuten-Douji met her demise when she partook in a poisoned sake that was gifted to the oni of Mount Ooe. This poisoned sake, the Shinpen Ki Doku, is now her Noble Phantasm, her ultimate move as a Servant. The sake acts as a multicolored flood that will weaken and melt multiple targets depending on its potency as determined by Shuten.

Those that remain standing will be inflicted with all sorts of negative status effects. Lowered strength, lowered physical defense, sealed skills, and poison.

NOTE: She will not have this sake upon arrival so she will just be depending on her other powers.

✸ Noble Phantasm: Bone Collector - The Riot of a Hundred Flowers β€” Shuten's second special move which a variant was used during the "The Stage of Carnage: Shimosa" chapter. She can literally debone a target without spilling any blood or organs as long as she doesn't miss and is basically an instant kill.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.

✸ In General β€” In life, Shuten-Douji was an infamous man-eater who terrorized humans in the Heian Era along with Ibaraki-Douji and their oni brethren. She was an oni that lived for her own pleasure, but that also became her downfall. As an extreme alcoholic, even among oni, Shuten-Douji met her end when Minamoto no Raikou and her warriors disguised themselves and offered her and the oni poisoned alcohol. Weakened by the brew, Shuten was consequently beheaded and long after that became the stuff of Japanese legend and folklore. However, despite being the cause of her death, Shuten-Douji was extremely enamored with the poisoned alcohol, so much so, that it becomes one of her main weapons as a Servant.

Due to the crisis humanity was facing, Shuten-Douji became qualified to become a Heroic Spirit and Servant. After a Singularity in Kyoto was resolved, she was subsequently summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru, the only remaining Master at the organization Chaldea whose goal was to restore human history. The oni becomes one of the many Servants who establishes a contract with them and takes her new role in stride. Shuten-Douji just cheerfully reminds her new Master that even though she's their summon, she will continue to do as she pleases.

✸ Shimousa β€” During the story chapter, "Pseudo-Parallel World The Stage of Carnage, Shimousa," a version of Shuten-Douji was present as an antagonist. While the Assassin and ally, Shuten continued to exist in the Chaldea base and witnessed Ritsuka falling into a deep sleep, the Berserker version of Shuten (Berserker of SaαΉƒghāta Hell) in Shimousa proved to be extremely deadly as a foe in this alternate timeline of Japanese history.

Her attitude and behavior largely remained the same, except that she was the protagonist's enemy, working for the mastermind behind the Shimousa Singularity to bring about multiversal destruction. The full extent of Berserker Shuten's cruelty and violence was on display during the incident, as was her whimsy. It was Assassin Shuten-Douji who was able to establish a connection with the Berserker version and indirectly aid Ritsuka, which helped lead to the resolution of Shimousa. When Ritsuka reawakens in Chaldea, Shuten is there amongst the other Servants to greet her. Though her attitude has always been casual about serving her, Shuten's ties to her Master are proven to not be superficial; she is loyal because she wants to be and because she has a genuine (if twisted) fondness for Ritsuka.

✸ Interludes β€” In between the main plot, Shuten-Douji's connection and past with Sakata Kintoki is often emphasized. She met him when he was a youth and found him to be fun to tease as well as a potentially tasty meal to eventually consume. Before her death, they clashed numerous times, and their equal strength and fighting prowess always ended in a draw. They were always enemies, but her lustful and surprisingly complex feelings she has for Kintoki and his own towards her still linger in their current incarnations as Heroic Spirits.

Because Shuten-Douji originates from the legendary Yamato-no-Orochi, another incident in Chaldea occurred where a mysterious presence took over Shuten's body and mind, causing her to attack her allies. Once Kintoki and Ritsuka were able to defeat the presence and have it leave her body, Shuten, ruffled by the incident asks Ritsuka if such a thing were to ever happen again, to cut her head off indiscriminately. At this point, this showed the trust that Shuten-Douji had in Ritsuka, to the point she let her life be in her Master's hands.

Does your character have a moral code or another set of standards they try to live by?

Shuten's motivations are based on the pursuit of pleasure. She makes her likes very clear; alcohol, elegant drinking vessels and treasures, flowers, good-looking men and women, the moon, and flowers. If it makes her feel pleasant and she fancies it, she'll make it happen and/or take it to satisfy her own indulgence. She expresses disappointment in battle if there are no handsome men around for her to at least gaze at.

On the one hand, it's easy to say that Shuten-Douji, being an oni, has no morals. In life, she violently took whatever she wanted, whether it was alcohol, treasures, and humans, and lived selfishly and died as a result of that. On the other hand, her infamy as a calamitous monster has earned her a place in the Throne of Heroes as an Anti-Hero who is willing to pledge her strength to Ritsuka Fujimaru. She never denies being a monster, but Shuten-Douji does not hate humans and has no qualms fighting for the preservation of humanity. Some of her actions can even be read as helpful, but it's safer to say, Shuten just does what she feels like at the moment.

Basically, Shuten-Douji's morals boil down to living and thinking how she wants. What's important to her is that as long as there is alcohol, extravagant parties, and other fun to be had, she'll remain merry, without bitterness in her heart.

What quality or qualities do they admire most?

In terms of people, Shuten admires resilience and those with an unwavering spirit in the face of major adversity. These are qualities that reflect in people she has a particular fondness for, such as fellow Servant, Sakata Kintoki, and their Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru. Basically, if you're heroic and stick to your principles, she tends to acknowledge that sort of personality with respect. She also loves kicking back with anyone who can drink on her level or at least know how to have a good time.

For something more superficial, Shuten likes collecting treasures that are elegant and rare, such as drinking vessels. And lastly, for some other qualities that are equally superficial and disturbing, she loves good-looking people, especially handsome men who have eyes and bones that appeal to her appetite. Ritsuka, her Master, is not safe from this; as their bond strengthens, Shuten vocalizes a more dangerous and disturbing interest in consuming them in their entirety.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?

She has pointedly ignored talking about things she dislikes directly. When asked about it by her Master, Shuten replies that it is boorish to talk about such things. It is safe to say, that she isn't very keen on admitting emotional or mental weakness in the form of wistfulness and yearning. Given the opportunity, Shuten has said she would wish to drink the finest wine out of the Holy Grail instead of directly answering what her wish would be if it were granted by the artifact.

There have been allusions to her wondering if a relationship between an oni and a human could work out based on what she asked of another Servant, Tomoe Gozen who has mixed oni blood, and even for her, that small amount of sentimentality is undesirable.

Noticeably, Shuten-Douji also avoids talking about her origins where it pertains to her connection with Yamato-no-Orochi, one of the most legendary deities in Japanese myth. She places a high value on her individualism and just wants to live a life of pleasure instead of being bound by anything. Because she is connected to Orochi, however, it means a greater existence can take over her mind, causing her to become a mindless monster which is what she dislikes the most. She prefers to be herself, doing evil acts with clarity and intent. So whether she lives or is killed, it is to be on her terms as far as Shuten is concerned.

What is their sign, and why?

Shuten-Douji would fall under the sign of The Devil. She is extremely free-spirited to a fault and has almost no sense of shame about the way she presents herself and acts around others. Though she has a humanoid shape and communicates like a person, she is very much a monster whose thought process and morals don't align with a normal person's.
